Dudley C. Viles

President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Viles has 30 years of E&P experience. Prior to coming out of retirement to start Bright Horizon Resources (BHR), he served as Executive Vice President for Samson Resources Company. He was responsible for most of the company’s E&P activities including prospect generation, leasing and drilling programs, and operations. He played a key role in the company’s growth and was a member of Samson’s Executive Team. Divisions reporting to him included Mid-Continent, East Texas, Permian, Gulf Coast, and Canada. He was also responsible for Samson’s Business Development group which handled the company’s acquisition and divestiture efforts.

Prior to becoming EVP, Mr. Viles was Vice President of Samson’s East Texas and Gulf Coast Divisions where he was responsible for all activities within those divisions. Earlier in his career at Samson, Mr. Viles served as Vice President of Operations for areas including the Rockies, Mid-Continent, ArkLaTex, and Gulf Coast regions. Before that he held various engineering positions within the company. He began his career with Shell Oil Co working as a reservoir and a production engineer. Over the course of his career, Mr. Viles has focused on applying new or developing technologies to enhance the value of oil and gas properties in many different geographical areas. He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a BS in Nuclear Engineering from Texas A&M University. He holds a MBA from the University of Tulsa.


Gary C. Reid

Vice President Geology and Geophysics

Mr. Reid has worked for 35 years as a petroleum geologist in the oil and gas industry and has extensive experience with both exploration and development projects within numerous producing basins of the U.S. He has a broad range of expertise in areas of prospect generation, field delineation projects, and reservoir characterization for the development of both conventional and unconventional reservoirs. In addition, he has experience in the integration of geophysics with respect to field exploitation and risk mitigation.

Before joining BHR, he served as Sr. District Geologist at Samson Resources in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he was responsible for prospect generation and multi-well drilling project management, primarily within the Anadarko Basin, Oklahoma and Texas Panhandle areas. Mr. Reid was also responsible for the evaluation of multiple acquisition projects, primarily within those same areas. He was heavily involved in producing field reservoir studies and in defining upside drilling and recompletion opportunities.

Prior to Samson Resources, Mr. Reid was a Sr. Geologist with Pioneer Natural Resources in Houston, Texas, where he was responsible for field development drilling projects within the Gulf of Mexico Shelf area, offshore Texas and Louisiana. He integrated 3-D Seismic interpretation with ongoing field studies and reserve evaluations within the area.

Before joining Pioneer, Mr. Reid was employed as a Sr. Geologist by Sun Exploration and Production Co., and its successor Oryx Energy Co. in Dallas, Texas. His primary focus was the development of exploration prospects within both onshore and offshore producing basins in the U.S. He earned both B.S. and M.S. degrees in Geology from Texas Tech University.


J. David Hoffman

Vice President Land

Mr. Hoffman has 33 years of experience as a Petroleum Landman in various staff and management positions while working multiple basins in the E&P sector of the business. He has an extensive background in both exploration and development projects while employed with both public and private companies and has also assumed the Business Development role in working and closing numerous acquisitions during his career.

Prior to joining BHR, Mr. Hoffman was the Land Manager for Midstates Petroleum Company and managed the company’s Mid-Continent Lease Records, Division Order and Land Operations functions while overseeing a multi-well drilling program in Northern and Western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle.

Before Midstates, Mr. Hoffman was Vice President-Land for Crow Creek Energy III L.L.C and Crow Creek Energy II L.L.C as well as Land Manager for Crow Creek Energy L.L.C. The Crow Creek entities were all private equity companies that were built through drilling and acquisitions and successfully divested.

Prior to Crow Creek, Mr. Hoffman worked for Samson Resources Company where he held various Staff Landman positions in the Mid-Continent and Rocky Mountain regions.

Mr. Hoffman received a BBA in Petroleum Land Management at the University of Oklahoma and is a member of both the American Association of Petroleum Landmen and the Tulsa Association of Petroleum Landmen wherein he has served on the Board of Directors in various capacities.


Deward (Dewey) W. Gerdom, Jr.

Vice President Business Development

Mr. Gerdom has over 33 years of E&P experience. Prior to joining the Bright Horizon team, he served as the CEO of PDC Mountaineer, LLC (PDCM), a joint venture that was formed to develop Marcellus assets in the Appalachian Basin. His team owned and operated over 3,000 shallow wells and was on the leading edge of being responsible for extending the southern boundaries of the Marcellus play into Northern West Virginia.

Prior to becoming CEO of PDCM, Mr. Gerdom worked for PDC Energy in Denver, Colorado. He was part of the original team that moved PDC Energy into the Wattenberg and Piceance Basins of Colorado. During his career at PDC, he held several positions, including VP of Acquisitions and Divestitures.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Gerdom worked for Chevron U.S.A, Inc. as a Landman and Asset Manager. He was one of the founding team members of the Non-Conventional Gas Business Team that was launched by Chevron in 1989. Mr. Gerdom left Chevron in 1995 to become COO of a small northern Michigan family owned company.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Gerdom has worked all of the Rocky Mountain States, California, Alaska, parts of the Mid Continent and the Appalachian Basin. Mr. Gerdom holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of Wyoming.
